Diamond Clarity
Clarity describes the tiny natural marks — inclusions inside and blemishes outside — formed as a diamond grows. Most are invisible without magnification.
The Clarity Scale
From Flawless (FL) to Included (I). Look for an "eye-clean" stone — flawless to the naked eye.
FL–IFVVS–VSSII
- FL / IF — flawless to internally flawless; exceptionally rare.
- VVS1–VS2 — minute inclusions, invisible to the eye; a superb balance of quality and value.
- SI1–SI2 — small inclusions, often still eye-clean; great value.
- I1–I3 — inclusions may be visible; typically less brilliant.
Eye-Clean Is the Sweet Spot
You don't need a flawless diamond to get a flawless look. Many VS and SI stones are perfectly eye-clean, letting you invest more in cut and carat.
