Diamond Clarity

RINOVA Diamond Guide

Diamond Clarity

Clarity describes the tiny marks formed as a diamond crystal grows — inclusions inside, blemishes outside. Most are invisible without magnification.

The Clarity Scale
From Flawless (FL) to Included (I). Tap any grade to see what it means.
FL/IFVVSVSSII
  • FL / IF — flawless to internally flawless under 10x magnification. Beautiful, and priced accordingly.
  • VVS1–VVS2 — very very slight inclusions, difficult to find even under magnification. This is the grade we set.
  • VS1–VS2 — very slight inclusions, invisible to the eye but visible under 10x.
  • SI1–SI2 — small inclusions, sometimes visible to a careful eye, particularly in step cuts.
  • I1–I3 — inclusions visible to the naked eye, sometimes affecting durability.

One Grade, No Guesswork

Plenty of sellers will tell you SI is fine because most SI stones are eye-clean. Often true — but it means inspecting each stone and trusting whoever inspected it. We avoid the question entirely by setting VVS on everything. You are not buying a judgement call, you are buying a grade printed on an independent report.

Where Clarity Shows Most
  • Where the inclusion sits — one under the table (the flat top) is far more visible than one near the girdle, where a prong may cover it entirely.
  • Step cuts are less forgiving — emerald and Asscher cuts have open, mirror-like facets that show everything. This is where a high clarity grade earns its price.
  • Brilliant cuts hide more — round, oval, pear and cushion cuts break up light and disguise small inclusions well.
  • Read the report — every IGI report maps the inclusions on a diagram. Send us any report number and we will walk you through it.
