RINOVA Guide

Jewelry Materials

The metal you choose shapes the look, the feel and the lifespan of your jewelry. Here is a straight guide to the fine metals we work with.

Our Metals
Each has its own character — choose what suits your style, your skin and how you live.

Platinum

Premium & Durable

Naturally white, hypoallergenic and dense — platinum grips diamonds securely and never needs replating. With wear it develops a soft patina, which a jeweller can polish away whenever you prefer. The strongest choice for a stone you never want to lose.

18k vs 14k Gold

Classic

18k is 75% pure gold — richer colour, slightly softer. 14k is 58% pure — harder, more scratch-resistant and more affordable. For a ring worn every day, 14k is the practical choice; for colour, 18k wins.

White Gold

Modern

Gold alloyed white and finished with rhodium plating for a bright, icy shine. The plating gradually wears and needs redoing every two to four years — a simple, inexpensive job at any jeweller. Worth knowing before you choose it.

Yellow & Rose Gold

Warm

Yellow gold is timeless and needs no plating. Rose gold takes its blush from copper, which also makes it the hardest of the three. Both flatter warmer skin tones and hide a slightly warmer diamond colour beautifully.

Choosing the Right Metal
A few honest rules of thumb.
  • Match the diamond, save money — a G–H colour stone looks whiter in white gold or platinum, and completely at home in yellow or rose gold. Choosing warm metal lets you drop a colour grade without anyone noticing.
  • Sensitive skin — platinum is the safest choice. White gold contains alloys that a small number of people react to.
  • Hands-on work — platinum and 14k gold take daily knocks better than 18k.
  • Mixing metals — perfectly acceptable, and increasingly popular. Just keep the wedding band and engagement ring in the same metal if they sit together — a harder metal will slowly wear a softer one.
  • Resizing — gold resizes easily. Platinum is harder to work with and full eternity bands in any metal usually cannot be resized at all.

What We Don't Use

No sterling silver, no gold plating over base metal, no gold filled. Every RINOVA piece is solid platinum or solid gold, hallmarked and made to be worn for decades — not for a season.
