Diamond Education
Diamond Education
Everything you need to choose a diamond with confidence — from the 4Cs to certification, origins and care.
Cut
The most important C — cut determines how a diamond reflects light and sparkles. A well-cut stone dazzles even at a lower colour or clarity.
Color
Graded from D (colourless) to Z (light yellow). The less colour a diamond shows, the rarer and brighter it appears.
Clarity
Measures tiny natural marks called inclusions. The fewer and smaller they are, the higher the grade — and most are invisible to the naked eye.
Carat
The diamond's weight — not its size. Two stones of equal carat can look different depending on their cut and shape.
- Independent grading — a certificate from a respected lab (such as IGI, GIA or GRA) confirms a diamond's 4Cs.
- Peace of mind — you know exactly what you're paying for, verified by experts.
- Insurance & resale — certification helps with valuation, insurance and future resale.
- Read it carefully — different labs grade slightly differently, so always compare like with like.
Natural Diamonds
Formed deep within the earth over billions of years — each one entirely unique, and treasured for generations.
Lab-Grown Diamonds
Grown in controlled conditions with the same physical and optical properties as mined diamonds — often at a better price.
Fancy Color Diamonds
Available in a rainbow of hues — from soft pinks to blues and yellows — with value tied to depth and intensity of colour.
- Table — the flat top facet; its size affects how light enters and returns.
- Crown — the upper section above the girdle, where much of the sparkle is created.
- Girdle — the thin band around the widest point, where the stone is set.
- Pavilion — the lower section that reflects light back up through the crown.
- Culet — the tiny point at the very bottom of the diamond.
- Depth — the height from table to culet; proper depth gives the best light performance.
Set a Budget
Decide what you're comfortable spending, then balance the 4Cs to get the most beauty for it.
Prioritise Cut
Cut has the biggest effect on sparkle — never compromise here first.
Pick a Shape
Choose a shape that suits the wearer's style, from timeless round to elegant oval.
Check Certification
Always buy a certified diamond so quality is independently verified.
What are the 4Cs of diamonds?
Cut, Color, Clarity and Carat — the four qualities used to assess a diamond's beauty and value.
Which C is the most important?
Cut. It has the greatest impact on how a diamond sparkles, even more than colour or clarity.
Are lab-grown diamonds real diamonds?
Yes — they have the same chemical, physical and optical properties as mined diamonds.
How do I read a diamond certificate?
It lists the 4Cs plus measurements and the grading lab. Our team is happy to walk you through any report.
What clarity is best value?
Grades like VS and SI often look flawless to the eye while costing far less than FL/IF — great value for most buyers.
